QuestionAnswer
Demographic Transition Model (DTM) Model used as an indicator of what will happen to a society or country’s population and development over time. There are 5 stages.
Epidemiological Transition Model (ETM) Model that shows the distinct causes of death for each stage of the DTM.
Medical Revolution Improved medical practices begin to eliminate many of the traditional causes of death in poorer countries and enable more people to live longer and healthier lives.
Epidemiology Study of disease.
Industrial Revolution Process of change from an agrarian and handicraft economy to one dominated by industry and machine manufacturing.
Pandemic When a disease is prevalent over a whole country or the world.
Population Pyramid Graph that shows percentage of the population in each age group and the distribution of males and females.
Sex Ratio The ratio of males to females in a population.
Dependency Ratio The number of people who are too young or too old to work, compared to the number of people in their productive years.
Elderly Support Ratio The number of working-age people (15-64) divided by the number of persons 65 and older.
