QuestionAnswer
Supraspinatus (origin) supraspinatus fossa
Supraspinatus (insertion) superior portion of greater tubercle
Supraspinatus (structure/relationship) most frequently injured rotator cuff mm, runs inferior to the acromion process
Infraspinatus (origin) ifraspinatus fossa
Infraspinatus (insertion) posterior portion of greater tubercle
Infraspinatus (function) lateral rotation
Infraspinatus (structure/relationship) strongest lat. rotator, mostly deep to deltoid
Supraspinatus (function) abduction (first 5-15 degrees)
Teres Minor (origin) lateral margin of scapula
Teres Minor (insertion) infra/posterior portion of the greater tubercle
Teres Minor (function) lateral rotation, adduction
Teres Minor (structure/relationship) completely deep to deltoid
Subscapularis (origin) subscapular fossa
Subscapularis (insertion) lesser tubercle
Subscapularis (function) medial rotation
Subscapularis (structure/relationship) found b/w serratus ant. and the scapula
Deltoid (origin) lat. 1/3 of clavicle, acromin process, spine of scapula
Deltoid (insertion) deltoid tubercle
Deltoid (function) anterior- flexion & medial rotation, middle/lateral-abduction(takes over of sup. spinatus, posterior- extension & lat. rotation
Deltoid (structure/relationship) only muscle that opposes itself, most superficial rotator cuff muscle, share attachment (of lat 1/3 of clavicle, acromion process, and spine of scapula) with trapezius
Pectoralis Major (origin) medial 1/2 of clavicle & entire sternum
Pectoralis Major (insertion) lateral ridge of intertubercular groove
Pectoralis Major (function) medial rotation, flexion (if the arm is in hyperextension), adduction
Pectoralis Major (structure/relationship) forms anterior wall of axillary space
Teres Major (origin) inferior angle & lat margin of scapula
Teres Major (insertion) medial ridge of intertubercular groove
Teres Major (function) adduction, medial rotation, extension (when arm is flexed)
Teres Major (structure/relationship) inferior to teres minor
Latissimus Dorsi (origin) SP of T7-L5, saccrum, iliac crest, and ribs 9-12
Latissimus Dorsi (insertion) floor of the intertubercular groove
Latissimus Dorsi (function) adduction, extension from flexion, medial rotation
Latissimus Dorsi (structure/relationship) most superficial muscle of the low back
Rotator Cuff Muscles supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis
