What are the main reasons that humans migrate? The environment, the economy, and politics.
Which of the following is an example of a pull-factor? Another area has better pay than where you currently live.
Why might life in an area change? If a large amount of people with different traditions migrate there.
What happens to culture and language when a group of people migrate? The group's language and culture will blend with the language and culture of the indigenous people.
Who does migration affect? The migrants and the people who live where the migrants are migrating to.
How can language be used to trace migration? Similarities between two languages could mean that the speakers of those languages were close together at one point in time.
How many languages are part of the Niger-Congo language group? Over 900.
Who made some of the greatest migrations in history? The Early Africans.
Where did the Bantu migrate to and from? From the Sahara desert to the southern third of Africa.
When did the Bantu make their migrations? During the first few centuries A.D.
How were the Bantu made up? They were many groups of people with certain shared characteristics.
How did the Bantu live their lives? They were farmers and nomadic herders.
Why did the Bantu have to migrate every few years? Their farming methods.
What did the Bantu do when they encountered different cultures? They would change their customs and traditions.
What happened to the Bantu when they passed through the area that is now Kenya and Tanzania? They learned to grow new crops.
Why did the Bantu begin their migrations in the first place? They needed more room to grow crops.
Why did the Bantu look for places with iron for their migrations? The Bantu were ironworkers, and they needed iron to smelt.
How long did it take the Bantu to disperse all throughout southern Africa? About 1,500 years.
How did the Bantu interact with other peoples like the Mbuti and the San? They did not get along well with them.
How did the Bantu's interactions with other peoples like the Mbuti and the San affect those other peoples? The other peoples were untouched by the Bantu.
With whom did the Bantu exchange things like ideas, culture, and technology? With people like themselves.
