Why did the Plague Spread (1st reason) Black rats carried fleas that were infested with a bacillus called Yersinia pestis.
Why did the Plague Spread (2nd reason) People didn’t clean themselves or take baths, almost all had fleas and lice.
Why did the Plague Spread (3rd reason) Medieval people threw their garbage and sewage in the streets which created unsanitary conditions and became a perfect breeding ground for more rats.
Why did the Plague Spread (4th reason) The fleas carried by rats leapt from person to person with incredible speed.
Symptom of the Bubonic Plague (1st symptom) Painful swellings called buboes in the lymph nodes, particularly those in the armpits and groin.
Symptom of the Bubonic Plague (2nd symptom) Sometimes purplish or blackish spots on the skin.
Symptom of the Bubonic Plague (3rd symptom) Extremely high fever, chills, delirium, and in most cases death.
Result of the Bubonic Plague (1st result) Death Toll from the plague in the 1300’s; Western Europe had 20-25 million deaths, China, India, and other Asian areas had 25 million deaths, and other areas had 4 million deaths
Result of the Bubonic Plague (2nd result) Town populations fell.
Result of the Bubonic Plague (3rd result) Trade declined and prices of goods rose.
Result of the Bubonic Plague (4th result) The serfs left the manor in search of better wages.
Result of the Bubonic Plague (5th result) Nobles fiercely resisted peasant demands for higher wages, causing peasant revolts in England, France, Italy, and Belgium.
Result of the Bubonic Plague (6th result) Jews were falsely blamed for bringing on the plague. All over Europe, Jews were driven from their homes or worse, massacred.
Result of the Bubonic Plague (7th result) The Church suffered a loss of prestige when its prayers failed to stop the bubonic plague and priests abandoned their duties.
