Bill of Rights Summary

TermDefinition
First Amendment Freedom of religion, speech, press, peaceable assembly, right to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Second Amendment Right to keep and bear arms.
Third Amendment No quartering of soldiers in private homes.
Fourth Amendment No unreasonable search or seizures; guidelines for issuing a search warrant.
Fifth Amendment Cannot be tried for the same crime twice; cannot be compelled to be a witness against yourself; cannot be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; private property taken for public use requires just compensation.
Sixth Amendment The accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial before an impartial jury; trials to be held in the state and district in which the crime was committed;
Sixth Amendment (The Second Part and sorry but there is a word limit for the answer and it goes over) the accused must be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation and confronted by the witness(es) against him as well as obtain witnesses in his favor and have legal counsel.
Seventh Amendment Trial by jury in civil cases exceeding 20 dollars.
Eighth Amendment No excessive bail or cruel and unusual punishments.
Ninth Amendment The people have rights not mentioned in the Constitution.
Tenth Amendment Powers not delegated to the U.S. by the Constitution are reserved to the states or the people.
