Intrapartum Complication

Augmentation Adding to or increasing ...... ex- increasing action of uterine muscle
Caput Succedaneum swelling produced on the presenting part del fetal head during labor
Cephalhematoma SubQ swelling containing blood, found on the head of infants several days after delivery: disappears few wks-2mon
Cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD) A condition in which the fetal head is of a shape, size, or position that cannot pass through the maternal pelvis
Chignon Caput that forms underneath the vacuum cup of a vacuum extractor
Dysfunctional Labor Abnormal labor that does not progress
Dystocia difficult labor or delivery
Induction of Labor Initiation of labor before it begins naturally
Inertia A sluggishness or inactivity of uterine contractions during labor
Tetanic contractions abnormally long uterine contractions, >70sec from oxytocic infusion
Tachystystole uterine contractions frequency more than once in 2min or 5 in 10min with > duration 60sec
Tocolytic agent drug that alters the force of uterine contractions. Stop uterine contractions
Version manual turning of the fetus
