Quiz 1 Kinesiology

Gait Kinesiology

QuestionAnswer
Stride Length distance between heel contacts of same foot (avg 144cm)
Step Length distance between heel contacts of opposite feet (avg 72cm or 28in)
Step Width lateral distance between heel center of successive steps (avg 8-10cm)
• Foot Angle degree of “toe-out” (avg 5-7 degrees)
Cadence step rate or number of steps per minute (110steps/min)
Stride Time the time for a full gait cycle to be completed
Step Time the time for completion of a right or left step
Walking Speed the distance covered in a set amount of time (normal speed 3mph)
Walking speed is increased through what? stride length and/or cadence
Once maximum stride length is attained what happens with walking speed? Walking speed can only be increased with cadence
During normal walking speed in one gait cycle, what % is stance phase and what % is swing phase? stance phase is 60%, swing phase is 40%
What is stance phase in the gait cycle? from right heel strike to right toe off
What is swing phase in the gait cycle? from right toe off to next right heel strike
How does slower speeds affect limb support? it increases double limb support time to assist with stability
What happens in the gait cycle with faster speeds? eventually double limb support will disappear (definition of running) and be replaced by moments of having both limbs in swing phase simultaneously
In stance phase, the classic term "Heel strike" is the same as what term in Rancho Los Amigos? Initial contact
In stance phase, the classic term "Foot flat" is the same as what term in Rancho Los Amigos? Loading response
In stance phase, the classic term "Mid stance" is the same as what term in Rancho Los Amigos? Mid stance
In stance phase, the classic term "Heel off" is the same as what term in Rancho Los Amigos? Terminal stance
In stance phase, the classic term "Toe off" is the same as what term in Rancho Los Amigos? Pre-swing
In the SWING phase, the classic term "early swing (acceleration)" is the same as what term in Rancho Los Amigos? Initial swing
In SWING phase, the classic term "Mid swing" is the same as what term in Rancho Los Amigos? Mid swing
In SWING phase, the classic term "Late swing (deceleration)" is the same as what term in Rancho Los Amigos? terminal swing
Heel Strike The moment the heel contacts the ground: 0%
Foot Flat The moment the entire plantar surface in contact with ground: 8%
Mid stance the moment the body weight passes over the leg or the moment where swing foot passes stance foot: 30%
Heel off the moment the heel comes off the ground: 40%
Toe off the moment the toes come off the ground: 60%
