Why was trade disrupted in early Western Europe? Merchants were invaded by land and sea. Little trade destroyed the city.
What happened during the decline of learning? Only a few priests knew how to read and write, and that made them more powerful than those below them.
Why was loss of a common language bad for Rome? Since they all did not speak one language, it was difficult to communicate. The nation broke up.
What was the main religion in Germany? Most Germans practiced Christianity.
When did Gregory the Great become the pope? Gregory the Great became the pope in 590.
Where did the vikings come sail in from? The vikings sailed in from a country called Scandinavia.
Where did the vikings travel to? The vikings traveled vastly, from Europe to Russia to Constantinople to North America.
What happened during the magyar attacks? The magyars swept across the plains of the Danube River valley and invaded western Europe in the late 800s. They attacked isolated villages and monasteries.
What happened during the muslim attacks? The muslims struck from the south. They began their encroachments from their strongholds in North Africa, invading through what are now Italy and Spain
What was the highest social class? The highest social classes were royalty, such as kings and nobles, and religious leaders like popes.
What was the lowest social class? The lowest social class is peasants and women. Women could not own land.
Did warriors have a large roles in feudal times? Yes, they made sure civilians were not harmed during duels and battles.
What was the code of chivalry? It demanded that a knight fight bravely in defense of three masters: he devoted himself to his earthly feudal lord, his heavenly Lord, and his chosen lady.
When did knights start training? Knights started training at the age of 7, and attending classes throughout the day.
Who did troubadours perform for? They performed for the wealthy to impress their ladies.
What is the difference between Noblewomen and peasant women? Noblewomen can inherit land but are typically not allowed to leave their estate. Peasant women performed endless labor and were not allowed land.
