Pharyngeal pouch #1 | Separates the brachial arches internally. Pouch 1 becomes the middle ear and eustachian tube. |
Pharyngeal pouch #2 | Separates the brachial arches internally. Pouch 2 becomes the palatine tonsils. |
Pharyngeal arch #2 Muscles | Also known as the hyoid arch. Gives rise to the muscles of facial expression. |
Pharyngeal arch #2 Nerve | Also known as the hyoid arch. The nerve associated is cranial nerve 7, also known as the facial nerve. The nerve is involved in muscles of facial expression, controls the secretion of tears and saliva, and taste with the anterior 2/3 of the tongue. |
Pharyngeal arch #2 Cartilage/Bone | Also known as the hyoid arch. The 2nd pharyngeal arch has Reichert's cartilage forms ear-stapes, styloid process, and hyoid. |
Pharyngeal arch #2 Vessels | Associated with the stapedial artery that connects the embryonic precursors of the internal carotid, internal maxillary and middle meningeal arteries. Also associated with the hyoid artery that becomes the corticotympanic artery in an adult. |
