What city manufactured a large amount of steel? Pittsburgh
Why did the steel industry boom in Pittsburgh? It contained coal which is a the natural resource needed to manufacture steel.
What is the term used to describe the act of moving large amounts of cattle along trails? Cattle drive
Why did the cattle drives stop in Kansas? Because the railroads were in Kansas, so cattle could be loaded onto trains and transported east from Kansas.
Once on the trains in Kansas, cattle was transported to what major city? Chicago
What are two major cattle trails that led from Texas to Kansas? Chisholm Trail and Great Western Cattle Trail
Why were the Black cowboys successful during the cattle drives? They were very skilled, were eager to work, and found less discrimination working on the cattle trails than in other places.
What is a price incentive? Something that motivates a person to buy or sell goods or services.
How are the cattle trails and the concept of price incentives related? Cattle drives, which took place on cattle trails, took place because ranchers wanted to transport cattle east where they could be sold for $40.00 instead of $4.00.
Why were cattle brought to Chicago? Chicago was a leading city in the meatpacking industry. Cattle were transported there to be sold and processed.
Why did people move to Pittsburgh and Chicago during the Turn of the Century? JOBS!!!Pittsburgh offered jobs in the steel industry and Chicago had jobs in the meat processing industry.
