Christmas Traditions

SWEDEN We began Christmas on St. Lucia on December 13. The oldest girl wears a candle lit wreath and serves breakfast treats.
NORWAY Even our birds are not forgotten at Christmas. We put a bundle of grain on a pole for them to eat.
MEXICO We celebrate Christmas with posadas, pinatas, and poinsettias..."Feliz Navidad"
UKRAINE Cornucopias made of colored paper and filled with cookies and candy are given to children after Christmas Eve church.
ITALY Befana missed following the Wise Men, so she wanders around looking for children to reward.
FRANCE Children leave their shoes out for Papa Noel to fill with presents. the 'creche' or Nativity is important to us!
CHINA We use red paper lanterns to decorate our trees. Then we celebrate our New Year with fireworks which were discovered in our country.
GERMANY The advent wreath, the Christmas tree, and gingerbread houses began in this country.
ENGLAND The yule log is a special symbol Light at Christmas. They also sing Christmas carols.
AUSTRALIA Christmas comes in the summer and Santa comes in a boat!
HUNGARY Children have an advent calendar and open one window each day in December.
