Coronal/Frontal Plane | vertical plane, divide body into anterior/posterior parts |
Cranial | closer to head, cudal is opposite |
Paramedian/Parasagittal Plane | vertical plane, divides body into uneual right/left parts |
Rostral | toward the nose |
Trunk | Neck- 7 cervical, Thorax- 12 thoracic, Abdomen- 15 lumbar, Pelvis |
Superficial | near the surface, deep/profundus is opposite |
Superior | toward the head, inferior is opposite |
Pes | tarsals, metatarsals, digits |
Crus | tibia & fibula |
Thigh | femur |
Coxa | Os coxa |
Median/Median-Saggital Plane | vertical plane, divides body into exact right/left halves |
Posterior | back side of body, anterior is opposite |
External | toward outside or exterior of organ/cavity, internal is opposite |
Internal | toward inside or interior of organ/cavity, external is opposite |
Deep/Profundus | deeper beneath the surface, superficial is opposite |
Clunes | buttocks |
Inferior | toward the feet, superior is opposite |
Horizontal Plane | divides body into inferior/superior parts |
Distal | (limbs only)farther from trunk, proximal is opposite |
Proximal | (limbs only)closer to trunk, distal is opposite |
Lateral | farther from median/mid-saggital plane, medial is opposite |
Medial | toward the median/mid-saggital plane, lateral is opposite |
Anterior | front side of body, posterior is opposite |
Dorsal | back surface of the body, ventral is the opposite |
Pectoral Girdle | scapula & clavical |
Manus | carpals, metacarpals, digits |
Thoracic Cavity | ribs, thoracic vertabre & sternum form bony walls of cavity...houses lungs, heart, and other organs |
Antebrachium | ulna & radius |
Cranial Cavity | houses the brain and associated structures |
Abdominopelvic Cavity | houses the organs of the abdomen and pelvis |
