TermDefinition
Hypothesis An educated guess that attempts to explain an observation or answer a question.
Qualitative observation it has to do with some descriptive property that is usually described with an adjective, such as 'slimy.', 'stiff', 'crunchy'--Uses your five senses.
Quantitative observation it has to do with how much of something, or how many of something.
Procedure series of actions to be done in order
Independent variable the one factor changed by the person doing the experiment.
Dependent variable the factor being measured in an experiment.
Constant all the factors/variables that stay the same in an experiment.
Inference An attempt to explain or make sense of an observation (e.g., "The clouds are dark. I think it will rain.")
Conclusion A summary of information gained from testing a hypothesis. The result, end or finish of something.
Purpose activities performed to acquire, develop or demonstrate knowledge or techniques in any area of science.
Data the information gathered from observations.
Results a desirable or beneficial consequence, outcome, or effect.
