Scienctific Method Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Variables in an experiment that are kept the same. CONSTANTS (OR CONTROLLED VARIABLES)
The factor that is changed on purpose by the experimenter; also called the manipulated variable. INDEPENDENT VARIABLE
The number of times an experiment is tested. REPEATED TRIALS
The factor that responds to the independent variable; the factor that you measure and observe. DEPENDENT VARIABLE
The process by which scientists answer questions and solve problems. SCIENTIFIC METHOD
An experiment that tests only one variable at a time and is used as a comparison. CONTROL (CONTROLLED EXPERIMENT)
A predicted answer to a scientific question based on observations and research. HYPOTHESIS
What you are trying to solve in an experiment. PROBLEM QUESTION
The way(s) in which the independent variable is changed by the experimenter. LEVELS OF THE INDEPENDENT VARIABLE
this is the group being tested for a reaction to a change in the variable; also known as the treatment group. EXPERIMENTAL GROUP
