Breif introduction to social psychology

QuestionAnswer
What could you do to increase the conformity of a research participant? Make them feel imcompetent, place them in a group of three or more, put in a group where everyone agrees
What could you do to decrease the obedience of a research participant? Change the method of giving the orders, authority figure was more like a peer, change location of the participant(closer)
What types of attributions are commonly made in western cultures (US)? What is it? Fundamental attribution error, we overestimate personal traits; underestimate situation.
What is conformity? Adjusting our behavior or thinking toward some group standard
Explain Asch's study line study, 5 asch's staff answered wrong answer, actual participant showed discomfort to answer wrong answer
What is obedience? Willingness to obey orders or directions.
Explain Milgram's study. Learner, Teacher shock test. Learner was in different room, teacher was told to chock if learner got answer wrong. 65% when up to 450 based on the directions from the instructor.
What is the Stanford prison experiment? Who created it? What did it show Mock prison made in stanford lab by Phillip Zimbardo. During the experiment the prison guards and prisoners took on roles of prisoners and prison guards, was called off after 6 days.
