TermDefinition
Monotheism The doctrine or belief that there is only one God
Polytheism the belief in or worship of more than one god
Creed The doctrine of religious belief (specific to denominations of churches - each has its own)
Salvation History the story of Our Father's dealing with the human race. At the start, He picked one people for special help, and planned later to offer this special help to all people.
Demerit A voluntary misdeed that offends someone and therefore deserves some retribution or penalty. A venial sin
Infallible incapable of making mistakes or being wrong
Intercessor a person who intervenes on behalf of another, especially by prayer.
Four Characteristic or marks of the church In the Nicene Creed, we profess, "We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church"
The works of Mercy To feed the hungry; To give drink to the thirsty; To clothe the naked; To harbour the harbourless; To visit the sick; To ransom the captive; To bury the dead. The spiritual works of mercy are: To instruct the ignorant; To counsel the doubtful;
The conscience Conscience is a critical inner awareness that bears witness to the norms and values we recognize and apply.
Beatific Vision The immediate knowledge of God which the angelic spirits and the souls of the just enjoy in Heaven. And since in beholding God face to face the created intelligence finds perfect happiness, the vision is termed "beatific".
