QuestionAnswer
Indicator A substance that changes color when mixed with an acid or base.
Substances Matter of a specific chemical make up
Acids A compound that has a pH lower than 7
Bases A compound that has a pH higher than 7
pH paper An indicator of potential of hydrogen
Litmus paper A paper that turns a shade of color when dipped into an acid or base and shows how acidic or basic a substance is
A way to remember the three fourmulas to find volume,mass and density The density triangle: /m\. You divide D and V by M and multiply D and V /d |v\ depending on what your trying to find
Physical properties A property that can be measured
Chemical property A property that must be measured chemically
Solvent A substance that dissolves and becomes a solution with water
Solute A substance being dissolved chemically or physically
What is everything made of? Atoms
Atoms The smallest particle of matter
Element A pure substance containing one kind of atom. An element cannot be separated into smaller materials
Molecule Two or more atoms linking together. ( It can be the same type of atom or different)
Compond A pure substance made up of a group of two or more atoms that are held together by chemical bonds.
Mixtures Two elements or compounds not chemically combined. A mixture can be separated in a physical way.
Homogeneous mixture A mixture that is the same throughout
Heterogeneous mixture Mixtures that are different throughout
