Origin, Insertion and Function of superior limb muscles

QuestionAnswer
Scapular Movements upward rotation, downward rotation, protraction (abduction), retraction (adduction), elevation, depression
Scapular Muscles (Roger Rabbit Likes To Smoke Pot Sometimes) Rhomboideus Major, Romboideus Minor, Levator scapulae, Trapezius, Serratus anterior, Pectoralis Minor, Subclavius
Shoulder Joint Movements flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, medial rotation, lateral rotation
Muscles of Shoulder Joint- Rotator Cuff (SITS) Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, Subscapularis
Muscles of Shoulder Joint- Shoulder Cap Deltoid
Intertubercular Groove Muscles (2 majors escort mus Dorsi) Pectoralis Major, Teres Major, Latissimus dorsi
Movement of Elbow Joint flexion, extention
Anterior Brachial Muscles Coracobrachialis, Brachialis, Biceps Brachii
Posterior Brachial Muscle Tricepts Brachii
Rhomboideus Major Origin: T2 & T5. Insertion: medial margin of scapula. Function: adduction, downward rotation, stabilization of scapula.
Rhomboideus Minor Origin: spinous process of C7 to T1. Insertion: medial margin of scapula at base of scapular spine. Function:elevation, lateral flexion, stabilization of scapula
Levator Scapulae Origin: posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of C1-C4. Insertion: superior angle and upper medial margin of scapula. Function: elevation, lateral flexion of neck, stabilize scapula
Trapezius Origin: occipital, sp C1-T12 Insertion: posterior border of lateral 1/3 of clavicle, medial border of acromion, superior edge and medial base of scapular spine. Function: upward rotation, elevation, adduction, extension of head, scapular stabilization
Serratus Anterior Origin: outer surface of first 8 or nine ribs anterior to mid auxillary line and intercostal fascia. Insertion: medial margin Function: abduction, upward rotation, upper fibers help suspend scapula, stabilize.
Pectoralis Minor Origin: ribs 3,4,5 with cartilage and fascia of external intercostal muscles. Insertion: medial border of coracoid process of the scapula. Function abduction, downward rotation, active in forced breathing.
Subclavius Origin: first rib and cartilage. Insertion: groove on inferior surface of middle of clavicle. Function Downward rotation of clavicle, stabilizes clavicle
Supraspinatus Origin: Supraspinous fossa of scapula. Insertion: Upper aspect of greater tubercle of humerus. Function: 10-15 degrees abduction of shoulder.
Infraspinatus Origin: Medial part of infraspinous fossa of scapula. Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus. Function: lateral rotation of shoulder
Teres Minor Origin: lateral margin of scapula. Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus. Function: lateral rotation of shoulder.
Subscapularis Origin: subscapular fossa of scapula. Insertion: lesser tubercle of humerus. Function: medial rotation of shoulder.
Deltoid Origin: lateral 3rd of clavicle, acromion, and spine of scapula. Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of humerus. Function: abduction, flexion, extension, lateral rotation, medial rotation.
Pectoralis Major Origin: sternum and medial half of clavicle. Insertion: lateral ridge of IT Groove. Function: adduction and medial rotation of shoulder, flexion of an extended shoulder.
Teres Major Origin: inferior angle of scapula. Insertion: medial ridge of IT Groove. Function adduction & medial rotation of shoulder, extension of flexed shoulder.
Latissmus dorsi Origin: spinous processes T-7 to Sacrum, posterior part of illiac crest. Insertion: floor of IT Groove. Function adduction & medial rotation of shoulder, extension of flexed shoulder.
Coracobachialis Origin: Coracoid process of scapula. Insertion: Medial shaft of humerus between brachialis and triceps brachii. Function: Flexion of shoulder.
Brachialis Origin: Anterior surface of humerus, just proximal to deltoid tuberosity to proximal to trochlea & capitulum. Insertion: coranoid process and ulnar tuberosity. Function: flexion of elbow
Biceps brachii Origin: coracoid process & supraglenoid tubercle of capula. Insertion: radial tuberosity. Funtion: supination, flexion of elbow, flexion of shoulder.
Tricepts Brachii Origin: infragleniod tubercle of scapula. Insertion: olecranon process of ulna. Function: extension of elbow, assists in extension of shoulder.
