Adaptation means? A decrease in the sensitivity to a prolonged stimulus.
Alpha is? A brian wave pattern when the subject is awake but relaxed.
Cerebellum is? Part of the brain that governs muscle tone, coordinates movements and regulates posture and balance.
Cerebrospinal is? Clear fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
A dermatome is? An area of teh skin that a specific sensory nerve serves.
A ganglion is? A cluster of nerve cell bodies located in the PNS, typically the spinal cord.
Golgi tendon organs are? Stretch receptors activated by both tension and excessive stretch, responding by inhibiting motor neurons.
The medulla oblongata is? Part of the brain stem containing respitory, cardiac, and vasomotor centres.
Meningies are? Connective tissue membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
Muscle spindles are? Strech receptors that monitor changes in muscle length as well as the rate of this change causing a reflexive contraction
Myotomes are? A groupe of skeletal muscles innervated by a single spinal segment.
A nerve impulse is? An electrical fluctuation that travels along the surface of a nerual cell membrane.
Nociceptors detect what? Pain
A plexus is? A network of intersecting nerves in the PNS.
A sodium potassium pump is? An active transport system that produces and maintains resting potentials of neural membranes.
