"Oh, Freedom" Vocab

WordDefinition Part of SpeechSentence
Segregation The separation of a group of people based on race, ethnicity, or class. Noun Segregation was occurring when the black and white people had to sit in different sections.
Define To state the meaning of something. Verb The students were expected to define the words on the test.
Guarantee To make sure or certain. Verb The babysitter was going to guarantee that the kids can go to the store.
Individual A particular person separate from a group. Noun The students had to do their work individually.
Activist A person who takes direct action in support of a cause. Noun Many activists fought to end the life of discrimination.
Protest A public act to express the view that something is wrong or unfair. Noun The girl was going to protest the people were treating black people disrespectfully.
Discrimination Unjust behavior toward others based on differences in race, gender, or age. Noun Discrimination was being shown when the black people were no allowed in the restroom.
Integration The practice of making places or organizations open to people of all races. Noun Integration was being shown when both black and white people were allowed to use the restroom.
