What is a Dictatorship Totalitarian government? | Ruler who has supreme power, but when he dies, power is not given to his family. Others usually fight to take over the power. People have few right or voice in government. Example = Sadam Hausin |
What is a Representative Democracy? | The citizens or people stay informed about what is happening in the government and elect representatives to make laws for them. We got the idea from Ancient Greece. |
What is a Republic? | This is the same as a Representative Democracy. Through civic participation, citizens can criticize and choose officials to govern them. In Ancient times, Rome was a Republic |
What is a Constitutional Monarchy? | This is a form of Government where there is a king or queen. However, they hold no real power. The power rests in a Parliament or a Constitution. An example= Modern day England |
What is a Direct Democracy? | The city state of Athens, Greece is an example. All citizen meet to make laws and decisions. They do not elect representative. This works well for a small populations. Only males born in Greece could vote. No women, slaves or immigrants. |
