6th Grade Science Light & Color

What is a crest? The highest point of a transverse wave.
What is the frequency? The number of wave crests or troughs that pass a point in one unit of time.
What is a reflection? How waves bounce off an object.
If a material is translucent, what does it mean? Only some light passes through.
If a material is transparent, what does it mean? Light passes through.
If a material is opaque, what does it mean? No light passes through.
What is diffuse reflection? Bouncing back light waves from an uneven surface.
What is refraction? The bending of a wave.
What is a trough? The lowest point of a transverse wave.
What are the colors of the visible spectrum in the correct order? Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
What is the amplitude? The height of a wave from its trough or crest to its midpoint.
What is the wavelength? The distance between wave crests of troughs in a transverse wave.
What is a compression? The distance between wave crests or troughs in a transverse wave.
Why is an object the color that we see? White lights makes the spectrum and whenever it goes through it makes color.
What is a rarefaction? A light in a straight line.
All waves carry ______. Energy
What is a medium? A solid, liquid or gas.
What types of waves need a medium to travel through it? Compressional waves
What is the correct order of the visible spectrum from the lowest frequency to the highest frequency? Purple (highest) to red (lowest)
