Ecology Test Part 2

QuestionAnswer
Mutualism A relationship between two organisms in which both organisms benefit.
Parasitism A relationship between two organisms in which one organism benefits and the other is harmed.
Commensalism A relationship between two organisms in which one organism benefits and the other is unaffected.
Decidious Forest A forest biomes where the leaves on the trees fall off during winter, or the dry season, and grow back in the spring and summer.
Tundra A treeless plain found in the Artic or on the tops of mountains that is characterized by very low winter temperatures and short, cool summers.
Grasslands An area that often has scattered trees and that is found in tropical and subtropical areas where seasonal rains, fires, and drought happen.
Desert A region that has little or no plant life, long periods without rain, and extreme temperatures; usually found in hot climates.
Taiga A biome occurs in the higher latitudes such as northern America or Russia. It has very cold winters and cool summers with moderate to low precipitation, mostly evergreen trees and a variety of animals in the summer.
Freshwater Ecosystem Type of water ecosystem might include lakes, rivers, swamps, etc
Saltwater Ecosystem Type of water ecosystem that includes the oceans.
Temperate Forest A biome known for its temperate weather. This means it has four season: summer, fall, spring, and winter. This biome also has lots of rain and fertile soil.
Rainforest A forest with tall trees, warm climates, and lots of rain. In some rainforests it rains more than one inch nearly every day of the yea
Competition Two organisms fighting over resources (food, territory, a mate etc.)
Predator/ Prey A relationship between two organisms in which one organisms eats the other.
