TermDefinition
High Pressure a mass of cool, dry air in the atmosphere; they bring fair weather and light wind
Low Pressure a mass of warm, moist air in the atmosphere; they bring violent storms with high winds
Cold Front a boundary of air where cold air replaces warm air
Warm Front a boundary of air where warm air replaces cold air
Occluded Front happens when a cold air mass pushes a warm air mass up into the atmosphere; they bring clouds and rain
Stationary Front appears when a cold air mass and a warm air mass meet and neither mass is strong enough to move the other; they can remain over an area for days.
Sea Breeze when the air over land heats quickly while the air above the water stays cooler, the air heats and rises and the cooler air from the water moves to replace the warm air.
Land Breeze at night the air above the land cools down quickly while the air above the ocean stays warmer. the air from the ocean rises and pulls the cooler air from the land.
Valley Breeze during the day, the sun heats the valley air quickly. the warm air rises and moves up the mountain.
Mountain Breeze at night, the mountain air cools faster than the valley. the cool air sinks causing the wind to move in the opposite direction.
