Community Dental Health I

TermDefinition
Community The public or group of people with common interests who live in a specific locality.
Health Complete physical and social well-being, not merely the absence
Public Health The science and art of prevention disease, prolonging life and promoting physical health and efficiency through organized community efforts.
Dental Public Health The science and art of preventing and controlling dental disease and promoting dental health through organized community efforts.
Population Health The health outcomes of a group of individuals, including the distribution of such outcomes within the group.
Department of Health and Human Services DHHS A department of the federal government presiding over agencies that conduct oral health activities.
Assessment A core public health function that includes the regular and systemic collection, assemblage, and analysis of data and communication regarding the oral health of the community.
Policy Development A core public health function in which laws are planned and developed to support community oral health issues.
Assurance A core public health function in which agencies educate, support, and evaluate programs to ensure that the community's oral health needs are addressed.
