Forces and Motion

Force a push or pull
Gravity the force that pulls us down to Earth
Motion the change in position of an object compared to a reference point
Air resistance (drag) the forces that are in opposition to the relative motion of an object through the air
Friction caused when two objects rub together to create heat
Reference Point a place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion
Speed the distance the object travels in one unity of time
Equation for Speed Speed= distance/time
Velocity Speed in a given direction
Newton's First Law an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force
Inertia the tendency to resist changes in motion
