Plant Vocabulary

Roots The part of a plant that soaks up water and minerals.
Stem The part of a plant used for support and that has tubes for carrying food, minerals and water.
Leaves The part of a plant that makes food.
Flowers The part of a plant that makes seeds.
Fruit The part of a plant that holds and protects seeds.
Chlorophyll A green pigment that is found in plants' leaves that help the plant make food.
Photosynthesis The process that plants use to make energy from sunlight.
Sugar The type of food that plants make in their leaves. It is also known as glucose.
Oxygen The type of gas that is released into the air after photosynthesis.
Carbon Dioxide The type of gas that plants need for photosynthesis.
