9GA Lit terms

TermDefinition
Setting The time and place, or the where and when that a story takes place.
External Conflict A problem between a character and another, Person place or thing.
Internal Conflict A problem with in the mind or soul of a character.
Character VS Character When a character in the story is in conflict with another living or non living thing
Character VS Self A character may be struggling with making a decision or choosing sides.
Character VS Nature A character battles or struggles against some aspect of nature.
Character VS The Supernatural A character battles or struggles against those things that cannot be explained in the natural and/or scientific world.
Character VS Society A character battles or struggles against the rules, laws, morals of a group or place.
Character VS Destiny A character battles or struggles against their pre-determined fate.
Theme A main idea the author is trying to express in a piece of literature
Climax The highest point of tension in s story.
Static Characters Character who do not go through a significant change in the story.
Round Characters Main characters with good and bad traits that are developed physically, mentally and socially over the course of a novel.
Dynamic Characters A character who changes their understanding, commitment and or values in a story.
Flat Characters A "stereotypical" or "stock" character that is often a supporting character.
