Robert Hooke In 1665, this scientist discovered the cell after investigating a piece of cork through a lens.
Anton van Leeuwenhoek In 1674, sing a tiny lens that magnified objects up to 270 times, this scientist was considered the father of the microscope. He used his invention to study yeast plants.
Mathias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann In 1838, this scientist discovered that all plants were made of cells. A year later, this scientist hypothesized that animals, too, were made up of cells. Together, they wrote the first two principles of cell theory.
Rudolf Virchow In 1855, this scientist completed cell theory when he concluded that cells only form from other cells.
