rate the distance an object will travel divided by the time it will travel: r = d/t
supplementary angles two angles whose sum is 180 degrees. each angle is the supplement of the other
variable a letter used in a mathematical expression
verbal problem a problem stated in words. its solution requires making a variable assignment, writing and solving an equation, checking the result in the problem, and writing a verbal answer
