Maintenance for Oral Health

| What is the main goal of maintenance? | Continue the healthy state that the patient has achieved during active therapy. |
| What is important to teach patients of their disease? | it can re-occur but can be controlled and prevented through self-care and regular professional care |
| What is the purposes of the maintenance program? | prevent new diseases and a re-occurrence and to monitor educational and behavior change. To provide instruction and encouragement. |
| Preventive PMT | prevent the initiation of the disease in individuals without disease |
| Trial PMT | provides an interim study period for borderline patients |
| Compromise PMT | for patients who need surgery but for various reasons it must be delayed |
| Post treatment PMT | to prevent recurrence of the disease and maintain the state of periodontal health attained during periodontal therapy whether nonsurgical or surgical |
| What is the maintenance care plan? | Oral hygiene instruction, motivation, periodontal debridement, dental caries control, supplemental care procedures |
| What is the scheduling method used for maintenance patients? | make the appointment before the patient leaves |
