Term | Definition |

Soluble | able to dissolve in a certain solvent |
Insoluble | unable to dissolve in a certain solvent |
Concentrated solution | a large mass of dissolved solute for a certain quantity of solvent |
Dilute solution | a small mass of dissolved solute in a certain quantity of solvent |
Concentration | the quantity of solute that is dissolved in a certain quantity of solvent |
Saturated solution | when no more solute will dissolve in a certain amount of solvent |
Unsaturated solution | when more solute is able to dissolve in a certain amount of solvent |
Solubility | the mass of solute that can dissolve in a certain volume or mass of solvent at a certain temperature |
Rate of dissolving | when you measure how fast a solute dissolves in a solvent |
Acid | a compound that dissolves in water to form a solution that has a pH lower than 7 |
Base | a compound that dissolves in water to form a solution that has a pH higher than 7 |
Indicator | a compound that turns one colour in an acid and another in a base |
pH scale | a scale used to determine the acidity of a solution |
Neutral | a substance that has a pH of 7 |
Crystallization | the process of evaporating the solvent from a solution leaving the solute behind in crystal form |
Distillation | a process used to separate and collect the components of a solution |
