Rock Cycle

TermDefinition
Cementation Process by which a binding material acts as a cement to glue sediments together forming hard rock
Compaction Pressure pushing loose sediments closer together, causing them to stick together
Erosion The gradual wearing away of the Earth's surface by wind, water, and ice through movement
Hardness Ability of a rock or mineral to resist scratching
Igneous Type of rock formed from cooling and solidification of magma either on or within the Earth's crust
Luster How the surface of a mineral reflects light
Metamorphic A rock that forms from other rocks as a result of intense heat, pressure, or chemical processes
Mineral Element or compound formed by nature, but not living things. It has a specific crystal structure
Magma The molten material produced under the Earth's surface
Sedimentary Type of rock that forms from compressed or cemented layers of sediment
Streak The color of mineral in powder form. Seen by rubbing a mineral on a streak plate
Lava Magma that flows onto Earth's surface
