Moving Cellular Materials & Energy for Life
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Passive Transport | The movement of substances through the cell membrane without the input of energy. |
Diffusion | Random movement of molecules from where there are are more of them to where there are fewer of them |
Equilibrium | Molecules of a substance will continue to diffuse until their numbers are equal in two relative areas |
Osmosis | The diffusion of water through a cell membrane |
Active Transport | When the input of energy is required to move materials through the cell membrane |
Endocytosis | The process of takingvery large molecules into a cell by surrounding it with the cell membrane |
Exocytosis | The release of a particle(s) through the cell membrane by use of a vesicle. |
Metabolism | The total of all chemical reactions in an organism |
Photosynthesis | The process by which producers use light energy to make food |
Respiration | The process by which your cells use oxygen to break down food particles to release energy |
Fermentation | The process by which your cells break down glucose molecules in the cytoplasm to release energy without the presence of oxygen |
