Which age was more concerned about manners, the Middle Ages or the Renaissance? The Renaissance. In the Middle Ages, nobody cared if you ate spaghetti with your hands, picked your nose, etc, at the table!
What is a courtier? A courtier is a prince's servant. They spend most of their time in court and have to have manners, be athletic and flexible, and be loyal to the ruler.
What are some of the characteristics of Castiglione’s ideal courtier? Some characteristics of Castiglione's ideal courtier are to have manners, be flexible and athletic, to be a sprezzatura, and loyal.
What is a sprezzatura? A sprezzatura is someone who makes everything look easy.
How did Leonardo Da Vinci start his artistic career? He started his career by being an apprentice to Andrea del Verrocchio who was a painter and sculptor.
Why did it take so long to finish The Last Supper? In the the Last Supper Leonardo depicts the reaction of the 12 apostles when Jesus says “One of you will betray me.” It took him two years because he couldn't find the right face for Judas.
In the Last Supper, what did Leonardo use perspective on? He used perspective in the Last Supper on the walls and lines on the ceiling.
What is Leonardo's most famous painting? What is the technique he used for the background? His most famous painting is called The Mona Lisa. Sfumato is the technique he used to paint the background.
What is a pieta? Pieta is the Italian word for mourning. It is also Michelangelo's sculpture of Mary mourning over dead Jesus.
What are Michelangelo’s two most famous sculptures? Michelangelo's most famous sculptures are the Pieta and David.
What architectural project did Michelangelo supervise? Michelangelo supervised building Julius II's tomb.
