7th grade waves

TermDefinition
waves a disturbance that moves through matter or space
transverse waves causes particles in matter to move back and fourth at right angles
compressional waves causes particles matter to move back and fourth along the same direction
wave lengths the distance between one point on a wave and the nearest point moving with the same speed and direction
frequency is the numbers of wave length that pass by a point each second
law of reflection the angle that the incoming wave makes with the normal equals the angle that the out going wave with the normal
refraction the change in direction of a wave when it changes speed as it travels from one material to another
diffraction the bending of waves around an object
Opaque materials that let no light through
translucent materials that let some light go through
transparent lets all light through
reflect when light bounces off an object
absorbs when light is taken into an object
transmits when light goes through an object
loudness volume, magnitude of sound
pitch how it sounds/quality(high, medium, or low)
echo location the location of where the sound reflects
echo a sound caused by sound waves bouncing of a surface back to a listener
dropper effect the increase or decrease of sound, light, or other wave as a person moves closer of further from the other person
