Experimental Method mamipulates some part of the experiment to cause a specific reaction or see what kind of reaction
Correlational Method determining whether 2 or more variables are related in a systematic way
Independent Variable the variable manipulated so that its casual effects can be assessed
Dependent Variable have different effects on the behavior expected to be affected

Cross Sectional Research Design the performance of people of different age groups, or cohorts,are compared -provides info about age difference
Longitudinal Research Design the performance of one cohort of individuals is assessed repeatedly over time -same individuals are studied as they develop
Sequential Research Design combines the cross-sectional and longitudinal approach in a single study
Longitudinal Research Design example study of development of vocab
Sequential Research Design Can Tell What 1 ~ age-related trends are truly developmental in nature & reflect how it can be expected to change over time
Sequential Research Design Can Tell What 2 ~age trends differ from cohort to cohort & suggest that each generation is affected by its distinct growing-up experiences
Sequential Research Design Can Tell What 3 ~ which trends suggest that events during a specific period of history similarly affect all cohorts at the time
