Question | Answer |
---|---|
what is kinetic energy? | energy in motion. |
what is potential energy? | stored energy; EX- rubber band stretched in your hand. |
what are the forms of energy? | mechanical, chemical, electromagnetic, electrical, nuclear, thermal. |
what is mechanical energy? | associated with movement; EX- car moving, frog leaping trough air. |
what is chemical energy? | stored in chemical bonds; stored in foods. |
what is electromagnetic energy? | travels in waves (light energy) EX light from sun. |
what is electrical energy? | moving electric charges: EX energy in power lines. |
what is nuclear energy? | stored in nucleolus of an atom; EX nuclear power plants. |
what is thermal energy? | energy of moving particles in an object. EX ice cream melting. |
what is the energy path of a toaster? | sun- air- windmill- toaster. AND sun- water- dam- toaster. |
what is the energy path of a stereo? | sun- air- windmill- stereo. AND sun- water- dam- stereo. |
what is the energy path of a lamp? | sun- solar panel- lamp. AND sun- corn- ethanol plant- lamp. |
what happens during condensation? | thermal energy decreases as gas turns into liquid in a cloud. |
what happens during evaporation? | thermal energy increases as liquid turns to gas |
what happens during collection? | thermal energy stays fairly consistent. |
what happens during precipitation? | thermal energy stays fairly consistent. |
what happens to the thermal energy in a solid? | thermal energy is the least particles moving slow. |
what happens to the thermal energy in a liquid? | thermal energy is mediocre. |
what happens to the thermal energy in a gas? | there is lots of thermal energy because the particles are moving fast. |
