22 US History Vocab words

QuestionAnswer
IMPERIALISM Policy of powerful countries seeking to control the economical & political affairs of weaker countries or regions.
DOMESTIC AFFAIRS Matter of business having to do with one's home, family or country
FOLLY Something foolish or a mistake
ISTHMUS A narrow piece of land that connects two bigger pieces of land.
TREATY An agreement between two or more nations, having to do with trade or cooperation.
RAW MATERIALS Material that is still in its natrual or original state before it is changed in making a product.
EXPANSIONISM Policy of extending a nations boundaries, trade, and influnce
ISOLATIONISM Policy of having little to do with political affairs of foreign countries.
TRADE Voluntary exchange of goods or services.
COMPETETION The act of competing; a rivalry
FOREIGN AFFAIRS Matter of business outside of a person's country or region
STRAIT A narrow waterway that connects to larger bodies of water
IMMIGRATION The process of people coming in to a new country by leaving their old country.
ANNEX To take possession of or to add on
PRIMARY SOURCE First hand account of an event by someone who actually saw the event or lived through it.
INDUSTRIALIZATION The process of becoming industrialized (using machines to manufacter goods)
SECONDARY SOURCE A second hand account of an event by someone who heard about it or studied it.
AGARIAN Based on farming or agriculture
DESTINY Fate, or the way things are supposed to be - no matter what
CESSION The act of giving up land because of a lost war
CONTUGIOUS Places that are connected
