What is a galaxy made of? Gas, dust, stars, and objects that orbit stars.
What is our home galaxy? The Milky Way.
How can stars be different from each other? In size and brightness.
Except for the sun, stars are so far away that they look like what? Points of light.
What are stars made of? Gases.
The sun gives off energy in the form of what? Light and heat.
The sun appears large and bright because what? The sun is the closest star to Earth.
What are the inner planets? Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.
What is the surface composition, size, and number of moons for the inner planets? Inner planets have solid surfaces, are small in size, and have 0, 1, or 2 moons.
What are the inner and outer planets separated by? The asteroid belt.
What are the outer planets? Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
What are the outer plants known as? The gas giants.
How many moons and/or rings do the outer planets have? The outer planets have multiple rings and moons.
What is the movement of the planets? They revolve around the sun and rotate on an axis.
What is the shape of the planets? All the planets are basically round.
What are comets made up of? Ice, dust, and rocky material.
What is a comet's movement? Comets orbit the sun far out in space.
What do comets form as they near the sun? They form a tail.
What is an asteroid made up of? Metals and rocky material.
What is an asteroid's movement? They orbit the sun beyond Mars.
What is a moon's movement? Moons orbit planets.
What are moons known as? Natural satellites.
Earth revolves around the sun in what? A year (365 days).
Earth rotates on its axis in what? A 24-hour day.
What are the moon phases, in order, from New moon? New moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, waning crescent, New moon.
What is the phrase to remember the new moon? SMENEW
What is the phrase to remember the full moon? SEMFULL
