Vocab Flashcards

TermDefinition
Isotope An Isotope is a variation of the same element that has more or less neutrons in it.
Ion An Ion is a variation of the same element that has more or less electrons in it.
neutron A neutron is a part of an atom, located in the nucleus that has a neutral or no charge.
Electron An electron is a part of an atom, located on the electron shell that has a negative charge.
Electron Shells The electron shell are rings that circle around a nucleus in an atom; this is where the electrons are located
Triple Beam Balance A triple beam balance is a science tool that measures the amount of mass in an object.
Hand Lens A hand lens is a science tool that helps you see better with you naked eye.
Petri Dish A petri dish is a science tool used for growing and viewing micro-organisms.
Flask A Flask is a science tool that is used for holding or mixing chemicals.
Graduated cylinder A graduated cylinder is a science tool that is used to accurately measure liquids.
Newtons 1st law An object in motion stays in motion unless, and an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by an outside force.
Newtons 3rd law For every action there as an equal and opposite reaction.
Newtons 2nd law Acceleration depends on the mass and the force exerted on an object.
Unbalanced force An unbalanced force is when the amount of force exerted on an object is more than 0 Newtons.
Balanced force A balanced force is when the amount of force being exerted on an object is 0.
Speed speed is distance traveled by an object in a certain amount of time.
Velocity Velocity is an objects speed and direction at a given instant.
Acceleration Acceleration is a change in an objects velocity (speed and/or direction.)
Force A force is a push or pull.
Newton A Newton is the unit that force is measured in.
