metaphor | comparing two unlike things without using like or as |
refrain | one or more lines repeated in each stanza of a poem |
alliteration | repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words |
simile | comparing two unlike things using the words like or as |
personification | giving human qualities to objects, animals, or ideas |
