Cardiovascular Training Modalities
Modality | Definition |
---|---|
Continuous Training | Steady paced exercise performed at either moderate or high intensity for a sustained duration |
Long Slow Distance | An activity that is performed for a longer period of time at the low end of the target heart rate zone. This type of training increases the ability of the cell to produce aerobic energy and to primarily utilize fat as fuel. |
Interval Training | Requires period of high intensity interspersed with rest or low intensity training. Allows exercise at higher intensities for longer periods of time because it is broken up with rest periods. Usually anaerobic instead of aerobic. Not for beginners. |
Fartlek Training | Intervals are not precisely timed but left up to the discretion of the exerciser. Develops both aerobic and anaerobic capacities. |
