definitions

TermDefinition
observation is using one or more of your senses to directly gather information or indirectly through the use of technology
data is observations and measurements recorded during an experiment
inference is using new information and what you already know to reason as to what is happening
prediction making a forecast of what will happen in the future based on past experiences or evidence
scientific method a series of step used to solve problems
hypothesis a possible explanation or answer to a question that can be tested
theory is a general explanation based on several hypotheses and a large amount of data
law is a summary of many experimental results and observations.
experiment an organized process to test a hypothesis
variable any factor that changes in an experiment
control used as a standard for comparison to see if the independent variable is actually having an effect
conclusion judgement based on the results of an experiment, decide if the hypothesis is supported or not supported by the experiment
model a pattern, plan, representation, or description designed to show the structure or workings of an object, system, or concept
