History of Psychology
Term | Definition |

Psychology | the study of the psyche, or mind |
Historicism | the study of the past for its own sake without attempting to show the relationship between the past and present |
Presentism | attempts to understand the past in terms of contemporary knowledge and standards |
Zeitgeist | a spirit of the times |
Science | characterized by empirical observation and theory |
Epistemology | The branch of philosophy that studies the nature of knowledge, how it is acquired, and whether or not true knowledge is possible. |
Ontology | This is the branch of metaphysics which studies, questions analyzes and criticizes assumptions and theories about the nature of being and existence. |
Eschatology | This deals with the final causes of the soul and humankind and is a good place to stop and look around. Theories of Armageddon and the Second Coming fall into this category. |
Phenomenology | says that we only know the world through our senses, and since each person receives different sensory information, reality can only be subjective, and there is no one truth. |
