What is another name for WWI? The Great War
What is a stalemate? A deadlock; when neither side is winning
What were the new weapons developed during WWI? Poison gases, tanks, aircraft and machine guns
Who were the Bolsheviks? Small marxist group led by Vladmir Lenin
What were some problems in Russia during WWI? Little ammunition, only half a million men, not enough supplies and industry could not keep up
Who was Grigory Rasputin? Holy man, healer, influenced royal family
Who was Vladmir Lenin? Leader of Bolshevism; later became known as Marxism-Leninism
What are U-boats? Submarines used by Germans in WWI and II
What was the League of Nations? An international body of nations formed after WWI to prevent future wars
What was the effect of unrestricted submarine warfare? Many civilian boats/ships were destroyed
What is an armistice? An agreement to cease fighting, usually in war
What battle was the turning point in the war for the Allies? The Second Battle of the Marne
Why did the U.S. want to stay neutral? Expenses for war were costly and did want war between U.S. to break out
What was the effect of the Zimmerman Note? Influenced U.S.'s decision to get involved in war against Germany
Describe what was stated in the Treaty of Versailles. That Germany and the Allied Powers were to be at peace after signing treaty
