What is DANCE? DANCE is taught to broaden the movement experience, DEVELOP movement concepts, increase RHYTHM AWARENESS, promote MOVEMENT SKILLS, and enhance FITNESS.
What kind of opportunities does dance allow for children? Children can experience dance as a CREATOR (choreographer), PERFORMER (dancer), and OBSERVER (audience).
What is the primary purpose of dance? The primary purpose is AESTHETIC MOVEMENT. It is expressive in nature and has INTRINSIC VALUE to the performer, taking dance from functional to EXPRESSIVE.
Appropriateness of dance forms depend on? INDIVIDUAL, SETTING, GROUP, and OBJECTIVES.
What are RHYTHMIC & SINGING games used for? They allow practice for TIMING and MOVING to sounds or music.
What are FOLK DANCES used for? They involve different STEP PATTERNS and formations to music, varying temp, and style.
What is CREATIVE DANCE for? CREATIVE DANCE allow children to EXPRESS THEMSELVES by transforming ideas into repeatable movement, patterns, or sequences.
What is the DANCE and MOVEMENT CONCEPTS framework? It is similar to a Task Series. Starting with BODY, moving to BASIC DANCE ELEMENTS, with an opportunity to focus on RELATIONS or DYNAMICS (effort), before finally moving to SPACE.
What are some DANCE ACTION WORDS? Locomotion, jumping, stillness, turning, and vibratory.
What is the DANCE-CREATIVE process? Perceive the STIMULUS, DISCOVER, SELECT, COMBINE, REFINE, and PERFORM.
What is considered CHILD FRIENDLY? FAMILIAR, APPEALING, and IMAGES OF CLEAR MOVEMENT.
