Hockey league rules and terms

Backchecking Rushing back to the defensive zone in response to an opposing team's attack
Blue line The lines separating the attacking/defending zones from the neutral zone.
Boarding Checking a defenseless player causing them to violently fall/impact into the boards
Center A forward position whose primary zone of play is the middle of the ice
Defenseman One of two players that are positioned further back on the ice than the forwards
Hooking The act of impeding an opponent by placing the blade of a stick into their body
Healthy scratch An uninjured player on the roster who does not dress for a game. Only 20 players are allowed to dress for a game, players who are not going to play are considered scratches
