Principle of Punishment | If, in a given situation, somebody does something that is immediately followed by a punisher, then that person is less likely to do the same thing again when he or she next encounters a similar situation |
Punisher | A stimulus the presentation of which immediately after a response causes the response to decrease in frequency |
Punishment | Presentation of a punisher (or aversive stimulus) immediately following a response with the effect that the response decreases in frequency |
Unconditioned Punisher | A stimulus is a punisher without prior learning (Pain) |
Conditioned Punisher | A stimulus that is a punisher as a result of having been paired with other punishers |
Exclusionary Time-Out | Removing an individual briefly from a reinforcing situation |
Nonexclusionary Time-Out | Introducing into a situation, contingent on a response, a stimulus associated with less reinforcement |
