Stages of Play

Stages of Play in a young child's development

Dramatic Play a form of play in which a single child imitates another person or acts out a situation.
Socio-dramatic Play Involves several children imitating others and acting out situations together.
Solitary Play Involve explorations; gathering of information
Parallel Play Typical of 2 yr olds; children play beside each other, but not with each other.
Associative Play The first type of social play where children interact with one another while engaging in a similar activity.
Cooperative Play Play between two or more children.
Projection The child places feelings and emotions he or she feels onto the puppet.
Personification Giving human traits to nonliving objects.
